Description

The brand new ZWO ASI094MC Pro camera exploits Sony’s IMX094 full-frame sensor (36mm x 24mm). It is ZWO’s first full-frame cooled camera. This camera has 7376 x 4928 pixels, and supports BIN2, BIN3, BIN4 mode. The pixel size is 4.88 μm x 4.88 μm.  This camera provides 14bit ADC and its full well is 52000e.

DDR Memory Buffer

New with the introduction of the ASI094 Pro camera is an onboard 256MB DDR3 memory buffer. It ensures more stable data transfer and eliminates any amp-glow encountered with slower USB2.0 port during image read out.

DDR memory buffer is the main difference between ASI “Cooled”  series and “Pro” series cameras.

Astrophotography Performance

The ZWO ASI094MC Pro offers very good performance for astrophotography. Important factors include, low read noise, high dynamic range and peak QE of 56%.

IMX094 vs. KAI-11002

Compared with old full frame CCDs, such as the KAI-11002, Sony’s  IMX094 CMOS sensor has higher resolution, higher QE, lower read noise and faster FPS.

Unique Tilt Adapter

The ASI094MC includes a unique tilt adapter. The larger size of full frame sensors makes it crucial to be able to eliminate tilt at the focal plane. ZWO have incorporated this ability with a push pull tilt adjuster built into the front of the camera.

USB 3.0 Port & USB2.0 HUB

USB 3.0 Port: can provide 5Gb bandwidth to let your ASI094 run at 5 fps at full resolution (36MP).

The ASI094 full frame sensor requires 650mA@5V which is much higher than other cameras in the ZWO lineup. USB3.0 can provide 1000mA current, so the ASI094 can run standalone under USB3.0 host without the need for an external power supply (without cooling).

If you connect the camera to USB 2.0 host, which can only provide 500ma current, you will need an external 12V power supply just for camera operation (no cooling)

A 12V (3A or more) DC adapter for necessary for cooler power supply (2.1*5.5, center positive)

Battery from 9-15V is also suitable for cooler power supply.

USB 2.0 HUB: allows connection of various accessories, such as filter wheel, guide camera and electronic focuser. The USB2.0 hub allows you to connect other devices through the camera providing an advantage for cable management. There are 2 short 0.5m USB2.0 cables supplied with the ASI094. The USB2.0 hub is powered from your external power when connected.

Cooling and Anti-Dew Heater

The new ZWO ASI094 Pro has the advantage of 2 stage TEC cooling enabling very deep cooling (-35℃ below ambient). An external power supply is required to power the cooler (An AC-DC power supply is not included with the package, you can find a suitable one here).

The sensor chamber window has a built in dew heater with a heating power of 6W. You can turn it on when needed using your camera control software. In warmer/less humid conditions you can conserve power by turning it off.
