ZWO ASI178MC with Sony Starvis and Exmor R Technology

ZWO ASI178MC uses the latest technology Sony ICX178 CMOS sensor. It features Sony’s Starvis Exmor R back illuminated design.Conventional CCD or CMOS sensors are front illuminated meaning the pixel matrix and associated wiring are in front of the photocathode layer and block much of the incoming light.

Back illuminated sensors reverse this architecture with the light sensitive photocathode layer at the front of the chip and the circuitry for reading the sensor behind this layer. The benefit is far greater sensitivity for low light applications such as astronomy and microscopy.

This sensitivity coupled with exceptionally low read noise is a winning combination if you are looking for a great beginner’s camera – use it for solar system imaging, basic deep sky imaging or as an autoguider.

Included 2.5mm Fish-eye lens

A major bonus is the inclusion of a nearly 170º wide angle lens attachment allowing you to use the ZWO ASI178MC even without a telescope! When connected to the camera, you can do super wide angle shots similar to that produced by an all-sky camera. Capture images of the Milky Way stretched overhead, or record satellite passes or bright meteors as they flash overhead.
