TS 16″ f/4.5 Primary Newtonian Mirror with conical back features a lightweight construction.
This parabolic Newtonian primary mirror has a particularly smooth and precisely processed surface. We recommend this mirror especially for self-construction of a high-quality Newtonian telescope, but also for upgrading an existing telescope.
Why you should use a conical shaped mirror
The mirror substrate of common Newtonian mirror systems is flat at the rear side. The curvature of the front side of the mirror causes a different thickness from the centre to the edge. This primary mirror is convex at the back side. This design offers a couple of advantages:
♦ With only 8.1 kg, the mirror is significantly lighter than comparable mirrors.
♦ Cooling takes place more rapidly, as the thinner mirror substrate adapts faster to the ambient temperature.
♦ The deformation effects during the cooling phase, caused by different thickness from centre to edge, are almost non-existent.
♦ Thanks to the Optional Primary Mirror Cell HSZONTC16 from TS, mounting into different tubes is as easy as with a standard mirror.
