The Baader UHC-L Ultra High Contrast filter cuts through light pollution and boosts contrast in emission nebulae and comet gas tails. This dual-bandpass filter works for both visual astronomy and astrophotography.
It delivers brighter views than typical UHC filters thanks to its high transmission. The passbands sit around the OIII and H-alpha lines, enhancing nebula detail without distorting star colours.
Baader designed this updated version to block major LED emissions in the blue spectrum. It also reduces natural night sky glow and light from older street lamps. With CMOS-optimised Reflex-Blocker coatings, the filter blocks more off-band light than older UHC models.
Use the UHC-L visually or in astrophotography. It doubles as a luminance filter that cuts UV and IR light while suppressing skyglow. It’s ideal for comet hunting too, passing OIII at 501nm and the C2 lines at 511nm and 514nm that show up in comet tails.
Baader polished the filter to an ultra-fine finish, so you won’t lose sharpness—even at high magnifications. You can place it far in front of the focal point or even use it with a binoviewer without introducing astigmatism.
